Advanced Surface Ablation is a laser procedure that effectively corrects vision problems such as; farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatism using a minimally invasive method. ELASA is suited for those patients who are not fit for LASIK or those who are searching for another option to the LASIK method. This procedure provides patients notable vision enhancement through a safe process. ELASA does not involve a microkeratome blade which diminishes the risk of complications. Patients who undergo this method can accomplish their goal of much improved eyesight often eliminating reliance on glasses or contact lenses.
ELASA is performed on an outpatient basis. During the surgery, your eye surgeon will first remove the surface layer of the eye with a laser or with a solution of dissolved alcohol that loosens the epithelium so that it can be lifted easily. The cornea is then restructured with a laser to restore vision. A bandage contact lens is positioned over the eye to speed up the healing process of the operated eye. This bandage should be worn for approximately four days as instructed by the eye surgeon. Prescription eye drops are usually used to prevent infections and keep eyes moistened.
